Dr.Niamh Shaw participated in a simulated Mars mission in 2017 and after just 15 days in isolation with limited water, food and energy supplies her ways of living when she returned to Earth changed. Inspired by the overview effect experienced by astronauts upon seeing Earth for the first time, Niamh wants to use the perspective of space to consider smarter and more sustainable alternatives for all Earth citizens. This talk highlights this simulated mission as well as some of her other space activities in her quest to be writer-in-residence at the International Space Station.
