This year the first Kilkenny Science Festival will take place from 7th – 15th November as part of national science week. Calmast has been running STEM events and activities for many years in Kilkenny as part of the South East Science Festival. This year we are delighted to have a new dedicated Kilkenny Science festival. Calmast is working with schools , Kilkenny council and industry to develop year round STEM events in Kilkenny.
The festival funded by Science Foundation Ireland and is one of 14 science festivals taking place across Ireland.
Events throughout the week
Events will take place throughout the week, with special events for primary and secondary schools. A key feature of the festival will be our TY Science quiz, where schools from across the county can compete against each other to win our first ever TY science quiz – sure to be a lot of fun.
A special event to encourage girls into STEM will see local companies join the festival to highlight the many career opportunities available in the STEM area on Tuesday November 10th, facilitated by award winning science communicator Niamh Shaw.
Kilkenny library will be delivering flower bulbs to older people cocooning, with expert tips on how to look after the plants developed by Horticulture lecturer Yvonne Grace, Waterford Institute of Technology.
